Joli Blon big band comprises our [well-known…?] core trio of Lucy Vines on accordion, Fliss Premru on fiddle and Miriam Hogan on guitar joined by the fabulous Cheryl McIlroy on triangle, rubboard and vocals and equally fabulous Carol Wilson in drums, both stalwarts of the Big Weekend and beyond. Joli Blon Big Band play a traditional Cajun repertoire of two steps, waltzes with vocal harmonies and are unusual in the UK for being an all women Cajun band – hurrah! Their slot at Big Weekend is woven into of a busy summer schedule involving Glastonbury, Boomtown and FolkEast. They’re looking forward to catching up with musicians and friends at the BW this year!
Dirk and Amelia Powell are a daughter/father duo with strong roots in the bayous of Louisiana and the mountains of Kentucky.
Tony Weatherall is one of the pioneers on the uk cajun scene, starting with The Crayfish Five way back in the 1980's. He went on to play with The Companions Of The Rosy Hours, LeRue, The Hackney Ramblers and has been a long time member of The Boat Band
Despite their young ages, they have travelled with their music to many festivals and venues in Ireland, UK, Spain and France, playing alongside some of the well-known names in the genre and spreading the joy of their music.
