Tony Weatherall is one of the pioneers on the uk cajun scene, starting with The Crayfish Five way back in the 1980’s. He went on to play with The Companions Of The Rosy Hours, LeRue, The Hackney Ramblers and has been a long time member of The Boat Band. Now playing with the reformed LeRue, he has also joined forces with his son Joe on guitar and fiddle player
Ian Tothill played caun fiddle throughout the 1990s with The Cajun Aces, house band at Bradford’s legendary Triangle Club. Family life took him away from regular gigging for a while but he would be occasionally spotted in bands like Chanky Chank and the Whipoorwills. Nowadays he’s fully immersed in music with swing jive outfit The 309s, Cactusville gypsy jazz quartet and ambient audio visual duo Latterhand. Fired up by last years jam at the Big Weekend, an idea for a return to Cajun roots was hatched.
With both parents being musicians ( Joe’s mum, Lucy, plays accordion with Cajun band Joli Blon ) I suppose it was inevitable that Joe Weatherall would become involved in music. He took up the guitar at a very early age and was soon exploring lots of different styles, blues, gypsy jazz, funk, etc. He is now in great demand as session musician around the Shrewsbury area.
